Ravish

A young woman listens to a violin sonata for the first time. The melody is so pure, so deeply moving, that tears come to her eyes. She forgets where she is. Her heart feels full to bursting. The music has taken complete control of her emotions, filling her with a pleasure almost too intense to bear. What does the music do to her? It ravishes her.

Ravish means to fill with intense, overwhelming pleasure or joy, often to the point of emotional surrender. Transport, by contrast, means to carry someone emotionally to another state or place, which may be pleasurable or sorrowful. So, ravish focuses on ecstatic, almost overwhelming delight. Transport focuses on being moved emotionally, not necessarily to a state of joy. In other words, a breathtaking aria may ravish an opera lover; while a tragic news story may transport a reader to a state of grief.
