Transport

An old man listens to a piece of classical music that his late wife used to love. As the melody plays, he closes his eyes. For a few minutes, he is no longer in his empty room. He is back in the ballroom where they first danced. He can almost feel her hand in his. The music has carried him away from his present loneliness to a memory full of love. What does the music do to the old man? It transports him (to another time or place).

Transport means to carry someone emotionally to another place, time, or state of mind, often through beauty, art, or memory. Ravish, by contrast, means to fill with intense, overwhelming pleasure, often focusing on the sensation itself rather than the journey. So, transport focuses on being moved away from the present to a different mental or emotional location. Ravish focuses on ecstatic delight that fills and overwhelms you. In other words, a powerful novel may transport you to Victorian England; a magnificent choir may ravish you with the sheer beauty of their voices.
