Definition

Invincible means impossible to defeat in direct conflict or competition. Inviolable, by contrast, means protected from violation due to moral, legal, or sacred authority, not physical defeat. Invincible focuses on being unbeatable in a fight or contest. Inviolable focuses on being untouchable because of rules, rights, or sanctity.

What it describes

A young boxer wins his first twenty matches by knockout. His punches are fast, his defense is solid, and he never seems to get tired. Opponents fall before him, and the media calls him unbeatable. He starts to believe that no one in the world can defeat him. What does the boxer think he is? He thinks he is invincible.
