Accord

Two countries have disagreed over a trade deal for months. After long negotiations, they finally find a middle ground. They agree to lower tariffs and open borders. Their positions are no longer opposed; they are now in sync. What have the countries done? They have reached an accord.

Accord means to be in agreement or harmony, often after negotiation or by nature. As a verb, it means to give or grant something (e.g., “accord respect”) or to be consistent with something. Unlike harmonize (which often implies active blending or adjusting), accord suggests a state of agreement that may be formal or inherent. It is less about active tuning and more about compatibility or concession.
