Attemper

Attemper means to moderate or temper by mixing in just the right proportion, or to bring to a suitable condition by adjusting strength, intensity, or temperature. It is a very specific, often technical word. Unlike moderate (which means to make less extreme), attemper emphasises precise blending or conditioning to achieve an ideal balance, often in physical or chemical processes.
