Destine

Predispose - Shaping Outcomes in Advance and Inclining Toward Results · BOOK OF CAUSE

Definition

Dispose (to create a natural tendency or inclination, often without certainty) contrasts with destine, which means to direct toward a future outcome with a sense of purpose, inevitability, or fate. Destine implies a fixed, often external, predetermined path, while dispose suggests a more open‑ended leaning or readiness.

What it describes

A young boy grows up in a family of doctors. His parents, grandparents, and uncles all practice medicine. From an early age, he is given science books, encouraged to study biology, and told about the importance of healing. Without ever making a conscious choice, he finds himself applying to medical schools. It feels as if his whole life has been aimed at this one profession. What does the boy feel he was? He feels he was destined to become a doctor.
